Mr.
Laporte accompanied by a selection of his carved works
Mr.
Laporte was born in Verdun, Quebec on May 20th, 1948. Laporte started carving
in 1984 after deeply pondering his first piece - a horse. His work is truly
inspired and highly individual. His carvings are either three-dimensional
or in relief, and are worked totally in the block before being painted.
"I first see the form in the log and then I carve until I get it all
out". No added pieces, no superfluous sanding or refining. Only the
pure essential. This rare technique is the essence of Laporte's distinctive
and unique style.
His pieces are represented in major Canadian folk art collections. Andre
Laporte and his wife Lucie live in Quebec. They have three adult daughters
and one grandson.
